Volunteer At Shopmobility & Independent Living Centre

Who is our service for?

The Shopmobility and Independent Living Centre provides electric scooters, manual wheelchairs and other disability aids for local people and visitors to Ledbury and the District requiring mobility aids.

The majority of our clients require moblity aids for short term use such as shopping in Ledbury or whilst recovering from an injury.


People operating the service

With the exception of a part time Coordinator the service relies solely on volunteers.



Premises

The Shopmobility and Independent Living Centre is located in The Masters House, St Katherine's , Off Bye Street, Ledbury. The office is small, has a sink, toliet, telephone and facilities for making refreshments.


Volunteer Information

  • We require volunteers to help run the service Monday to Saturday, 9.30 to 12.30pm.
  • Volunteers chose which day(s) they are able to help.
  • Volunteers take telephone calls from people requiring disability aids.
  • Volunteers ensure that a form is completed by clients.
  • Volunteers ensure that equipment is serviceable prior to issue.
  • Volunteers may recieve payments as per a charge sheet and are asked to record such information.
  • When possible, Volunteers are asked to put electrical scooters 'on charge' and carry out minor repairds such as inflating tyres.
  • Training is given and the Coordinator is available to give help and advice.
